A roaring fire is welcoming to the senses on a cold, Winters day, especially on January 14th in Creemore, ON where it’s -5°C and flurries blow in from the East.
Curator, designer & owner Brenda Brown stands behind her custom-made, barn board desk surrounding herself and the space with odds, ends and everything in between.
But, no clutter.
Everything is carefully displayed to best highlight line, shape, texture and all other elements of good design. For the last 5 years or so, Brenda has been a custom builder of all things rustic, but refined using her own 2 hands, filling in the gaps with local talent, artisans or whomever else is needed to craft whatever she or one of her commissioned/custom pieces calls for.
“Creating our custom furniture is all about the wood. The materials we use is all sourced in and around the Creemore area with the majority coming from 100+ year old barns” Brown says. Although finding the perfect board (or boards) is sometimes a challenge, she gets great satisfaction in rescuing wood that would otherwise end up on a burn pile.
Brenda grew up in Collingwood; a hop, skip and a jump from both Creemore as well as Singhampton where she has called home for the last decade or so after an exodus from “the big smoke”.
mumba, named by Brenda’s first grandson has made her products and services somewhat of a staple across Georgian Bay; featured in shops from Owen Sound to Thornbury and now Creemore where we both welcome her as a merchant and wish her luck.
